HaShem made women good at talking

8 Kislef

The women came over to work today and we sang loud songs to drown out the sound of the wind as it rattled the doors and whistled past the weaving shed. It did quiet down for a little while and we got to talking about Old Silas. Milkah told us he did nothing but sleep. It would not be long now. The other day he had blessed half of KfarGanot, she said, and had committed the other half to HaShem because he had run out of time. He had told the family that her contribution should be valued and had even apologised to her! He instructed his wife to keep her peace when he was gone. Milkah would be in charge of the house so it was her duty.
"I don't think she'll ever like me, and I know she disapproves of my business activities" she sighed, "but she will have to put up with it."
I gathered from Shmuel that Silas had instructed Eliyahu to give Milkah more responsibility. He can't do everything himself. He had asked my husband's advice since he had run a farm with only a wife to help.
"What did you advise him?" I wondered
"That you could do most things but I always reserve the right to the final word"
"Is that so?"
"Of course, you don't always get your own way" he winked
We women have our ways. It's very rare I can't win him round. My mother used to say that HaShem made women good at talking so they could convince their men to do whatever they wanted. He only let men think they had any real control. She had it down to a fine art, I'm not so bad at it myself. I'll have to let Milkah in on the secret sometime!
