Online Photos

Putting up photos on the web is so easy, but choosing them... that's another story. We have so many, and I spend a lot of time editing them these days. You know, tweaking the exposure and removing gray skies. They used to say the camera never lies. Well, I suppose it doesn't ...much. But once we get hold of the photos and install photoshop or something like it, that's another story. Just be careful, you can never believe your eyes these days!

Just take a look at this:..

Hard Work but worth it

Just finished plotting out aerial photos on Google Earth. I learn more about Israel every time I look at them!

How safe is your data?

I don't know about you, but I often worry about all the information held about me by various organisations. You always hope that the confidentiality policies and clauses will be backed up by the management and those who break them will be disciplined. Have you ever thought what would happen if someone passed on information about you when they should not?
What happens when you complain? What if they told your friend with no witnesses? What about the damage to your life as a result?

Say a staff member where you used to work tells your friend an exaggerated story about the circumstances surrounding you leaving work work and you had signed a confidentiality agreement when you left - no one was to tell anyone about any of it. Well, if there are no witnesses, I have found they will do nothing if the staff member denies doing it, even if the information could not have been known by your friend any other way. If they exaggerate a bit, then it is put down to idle gossip and they take no responsibility at all. Also, it matters not if they tell more than one person. Even if they both say they have been told the same thing by the same person, if they deny it they get away with it.

I used to work for the NHS and this happened to me. If they treat their ex-employees this way, how will they treat your confidential information? Perhaps you already know, why not leave a comment. Have you had any good or bad experiences with confidentiality or medical records?

Do you think complaints procedures should be tightened up so they can give people justice instead of promising the earth and delivering nothing?

Blast that soundblaster

My Sound card failed today buzzing like crazy. i'm trying the software option but just can't get the drivers to install. I'm sure computers are really only there to test our patience.

I find it amazing that people my age and younger have no idea what the internet is about or how to use it. We grew up in a world that thrives on change. My generation has seen more changes every week than most people before us saw in a lifetime. Yet so many are afraid of computers. They are even afraid of switching the thing on!

I remember well attending a course on computing a couple of years back when I was actually awarded 10 points in the exam for switching the mains switch and a further 10 points for pushing the power button. Come on!!!! We have had electricity for a while now - we have had it at home at least since I was five - I think most people would find that automatic.

The internet is so full of possibilities. I can shop or window shop any time I like. I know just what to get from IKEA before I leave home. I run my bank account, blog and keep in touch with all the friends I lost touch with and found again on Friends United. FaceBook and MySpace give the opportunity to meet new people from all over the world. I even use Twitter to keep tabs on archaeology and politics- two of my many passions.

You might think I'm addicted, but I only spend an hour or so a day doing all that. Since I was never any good at posting letters - I wrote loads, but never remembered to post them- at least my friends now know I'm still alive and kicking. It's all so much easier now, too with Flock browser. I can do it all in one place!

Flock

I've just discovered Flock. I'm behind the times maybe, but it is going to be great for FaceBook and Twitter!
