Medieval job revived in Immingham
Peter Rhodes
Peter Rhodes has been in the job for six months.

The local town council has appointed a Lengthsman.

Peter Rhodes is responsible for cleaning up litter, keeping hedges and ditches tidy and tackling graffiti.

The position dates back to the medieval era when parish councils employed men to maintain an area or length of road.

The post died out in the late 1880s when road maintenance became the responsibility of county councils.

Many local authorities have revived the position over the last few years.

Mr Rhodes is halfway through a 12 month trial to assess the impact of his work on the local community.
